Iconography Peaks

A diverse icon set for Peaks

I created a diverse and modern icon set for Peaks, which can be used on web, app and social.
The icon set is in line with the whole “Piekenpijp” branding, as seen in the logo.

Problem

The old icons of Peaks (first image) were definitely up for an update. The icons are very inconsistent and were not made for an icon grid. All the colors together are too flashy and felt a little childish for the image of Peaks.

My Role

I was the lead designer in this project, and set up the icons, and a guide on how to use & make new icons for the rest of the team or who ever will use it in the future.

Project

The new icons fit perfectly in a 24×24 grid, with additional icons where there is a 12×12 grid needed. The icons are consistent but flexible, because of the simple basic shapes that they are made of. I still wanted to keep the colors, but now only use one color per icon, so it stays more calm and clear for the user to see what it is.

By using the rounded edges, we keep the playfulness of Peaks, but in a modern way.

What went well

The first meeting with my team was really to figure out what they would like to use the icons for, because of that I had a full understanding and knew what I had to pay extra attention on. For example the icons were going to be used in the app, as very small icons, therefor needed to me made in a 12×12 grid as well for it to work.

I also wrote a whole guide for the team to use, on how to work with the icons and how to make new ones. Because there was no guide before, the icons where very inconsistent. Now every icon will have the same size & style.
